Last Blog!

This class definitely affected the way I view mass media. While going through the chapters in the book I realize more and more what a huge role that the media plays in our life. I also realized how powerful the media can be too! In the "books" chapter it mentioned that in some places people were not aloud to read because they believe books were too powerful. In the beginning of this class I took a media level survey and ranked as a "Media Savy" and I now I can tell why.

Media Ethics/Media Law

April 1 2009, Sam Bayard passes a Federal Shield Bill. www. citamedialaw.org states that this bill would " would provide journalists a qualified privilege against disclosing the identity of sources and turning over information obtained or created in the course of newsgathering." This has to do with the first amendment because it deals with the information that journalist want to publish.

Taylor Swift

Artist of 2009, Taylor Swift!

I cant deny that in 2009 I was taken away by Taylor Swift's Fearless album. The moment I heard "You Belong With Me" on the radio, I knew she was an artist playing my kind of music! This album was filled with simple, humbled, corny, but true lyrics that made millions of girls reminisce about good times in her life. Personally, as a musician I think she's Bad Ass! for being a girl guitarist that doesn't have to shred on an electric guitar to be considered a REAL musician. I admired how her songs seem like they were pulled strait from her diary growing up! She makes all the simple things in life beautiful to remember. Some of my favorite songs that I instantly fell in love with and had to learn on my guitar were- Fifteen, Breathe, and The Best Day. (Live performance linked)

Books

The three books that I'm going to talk about has either deeply influenced my way of thinking, or fictionally painted a creative story line of excitement and suspense.

The Testament by John Grisham
Morally, The Testament conveyed the birth right expectation of inheritance. The plot of this book captured my attention with the unexpected conflict of expectations.

Foreign Influence by Brad Thor
The Foreign, Left the thought of what really justifies in the end. When Scott Harvarth (main character) uses torture of captive combatant to prevent greater destruction.

The incomparably, most influential, book in my life would hands down be:

The Bible (King James Version)

Due to my Catholic religion, The Bible is a powerful influence on my life. The Bible holds moral teachings that I do my best to relate through my every day. An acronym that explains my view of the bible is "B.asic I.nstructions B.efore L.eaving E.arth"

Media Impact

I propose that the woman models on magazines with “perfect” hourglass bodies, will affect both the male and female gender to expect woman to follow in their image of "beauty."
Personally I believe that the human body is beautiful in its own state of comfort and confidence. This is an important research because some women today become mentally and physically ill due to the infatuation to have a model-“thin” body. Also because both men and woman are creating cookie cut images of what a woman’s body should look like, which will be proven through this study. This is how I would conduct this research project- I would use the survey method by collecting poles from both men and woman (ages 16-50). I would let the people choose between two pictures of different body sized woman with the quick question of, "Which woman is more beautiful?" One picture will be of a thin “beautiful” model off a magazine cover, and the other will be a photo of a “beautiful”, realistic, averaged size woman. I predict that both men and woman will find the model from the magazine cover more attractive. This test will prove that the instinct of ones mind is naturally drawn more to this fantasy image of woman.

Media Autobiography

With in the eight types of mass media I have an extreme range of what has influenced my life since I was still in diapers; compared to other mediums that till this day, I still have no interest in. And my relationship to mass media is this:

Books- I mostly read just for school purposes or short articles in magazines. I've never been a huge fan of reading every since I was child in elementary school. I personally don't like to read books. I find them boring, not exciting, and too long.

Newspaper- When I was younger, growing up seeing my parents reading the newspaper gave me the mentality to believe it was for an older folks generations. More recently I've developed an interest for reading the newspaper. I think the newspaper is meant for a more mature mind to be fascinated by the types of articles that are written.

Magazines- Magazines grab my attention! I subscribed to about 3 fun/fashion magazines. I find them to be over flowing with new designs, colorful pictures, attention grabbing articles, and advertised products that influence my perspectives on what I've learned as well as my opinions of new arts of fashion. What I like about magazine articles is that- it is strait to the point. By reading magazine subtitles it allows you choose the articles that is clear about what you will be reading, instead of reading a tedious article that half way through you realized that your not interested in what that article offers.

Movies- When people say, "your either a book person or an movie person" they're right! I'm a movie person. I like all genres of movies, especially comedy. I am a bit of a movie critic because I don't like predictable, cliche, "seen it before" movies.

Radio- The radio is perhaps my most effective type of mass media. Music is one of my biggest influences. The radio channels that I listen to range from Country, R&B, Hip-hop, Pop, Rap, and Christian Worship music.

Recordings- I do have experience in recording. My old brother (Jason) has a personal studio where he produces beats and records artist and bands. My brother and I are both musicians, which makes his studio a creative musical play ground for us. I have recorded a couple of covers and original songs.

Television- TV is my comfort noise. My television is always on, usually playing Family Guy, Everybody Hates Chris, The Nanny, Gorge Lopez, Or anything else from "nick @ night" or MTV.

The Internet- I think the Internet a necessity in life! The very first and last thing I do of the day would hands down involves the Internet. Now a days I can easily spend hours just on Facebook alone! its rather horribly addicting.

As of right now I am not certain of what my career will be. I have a direction in communications and hopefully I will narrow down my career path as I experiment with different classes hoping to find a sparked interest. This year I want to travel in the east coast to New York and Boston to visit schools, possibly also Chicago and LA. A couple colleges on my list to visit is Boston University, NYU, and UCLA.
